What is Pilates

Pilates is for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level or gender. Pilates is a complete method of exercise designed to strengthen, lengthen, tone and elongate the body as well as helping to restore the body to balance. It focuses on building and strengthening your body's core (back, abdominal and pelvic muscles) and improving posture.

How it works

The benefits of Pilates are many, and through continued patience and dedication, movements can be mastered and the benefits clearly defined. In addition to the benefits of Pilates mentioned above, regular practice of the method builds a strong, long, and lean body core using deep abdominal muscles. Pilates movements also reduce stress and tension, increase energy, improve circulation and range of motion, and strengthen the spine improving flexibility, which promotes back health and recovery from injury. The benefits of Pilates matwork emphasizes the point that the body is the only tool needed to achieve physical fitness. There really is no need to exercise full speed ahead and possibly cause injury to your body. The old adage, "no pain no gain" is simply not true. A good work out does not have to leave you exhausted and sore.

Using a series of low repetition low impact stretching and conditioning exercises Pilates allows you to tone up and develop your muscles without adding bulk while simultaneously increasing your flexibility. It is so effective in fact that - within a short space of time - you will become aware of muscles you never even knew you had to begin with!

Pilates exercises train several muscle groups at once in smooth continuous movements. By developing proper techniques you can retrain your body to move in safer, more efficient patterns of movement, essential for good posture, peak performance, injury recovery and optimal health.

Who is it for

Pilates is for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level or gender.

Pilates is a system of exercise that is beneficial and enjoyable for men and women of all ages.

In this highly personal mind-body exercise system, each student will progress at his or her own rate. We focus on posture and balance, helping a student to stretch what is tight and strengthen what is weak. One can start Pilates at any age and continue doing it for the rest of their life.

Because of the way Pilates it practiced it doesn't matter if you have a disability, a particular weakness such as unable to kneel or rest on your wrists, there will always be an alternative exercise to benefit the targeted area.
